Preserving the Past with 2D & 3D modeling: Architectural Restoration Project at the Palace of Culture in Ploiești, Romania

We`ve successfully completed a comprehensive renovation project for the iconic Palace of Culture in Ploiesti, Romania. 🏛️✨ The Palace of Culture is built in the French Neoclassical style, impressing with its unity of style, symmetry, and balance, as well as the variety in which the four registers of the façade are treated. Particularly successful is the main entrance, located on the first floor, on the southern side of the central body. Access is granted through a drivable ramp with two options and the wide steps of a monumental staircase; a strong colonnade frames the three massive doors.

The Palace of Culture, situated in Prahova County, Romania, has long been cherished as a prominent architectural gem, built in the French Neoclassical style, impressive in terms of style, symmetry and balance. However, extensive repair work was necessary to restore its former grandeur. Our team was entrusted with the task of creating a highly detailed 2D architectural plan, integrating it with other plans to provide the client with a seamless workflow.

To achieve this, we employed our scanning technology, utilizing two FARO devices and one NavVis VLX scanner. Our dedicated team meticulously scanned both the interior and exterior of the building, investing a total of 130 hours in this process. Each scan was meticulously captured in color to ensure utmost accuracy.Remarkably, our scans exhibited high precision, with a registration error of only 9 mm per floor. 📐🌈

To align these scans with the 2D architectural plan, we integrated them into the national Stereo70 coordinate system. Ground control points (GCPs) were strategically placed on every floor and outside the building. Leveraging the power of AutoCAD, we developed a highly detailed 2D plan that seamlessly correlated with other architectural blueprints.
Furthermore, we went beyond traditional plans and ventured into the realm of 3D modeling. Utilizing Revit, we created a captivating 3D model of the Palace of Culture. The intricate details and realistic representation bring the building to life in a whole new dimension. Additionally, we crafted a topographic plan using TopoDOT, providing valuable insights into the landscape surrounding the palace. 🏞️💡

The project is currently in the crucial DALI (Documentation for Approval of Intervention Works) phase for repair works. We have meticulously considered the distinct functions of the building, encompassing cultural, administrative, and technical spaces. Approximately 40% of the rooms within the palace are designated as cultural spaces, boasting exceptional architectural ornamentation. Preserving the rich heritage of this iconic structure has been at the forefront of our efforts.

It took approximately 600 hours to create the intricate 2D drawings, a further 430 hours to develop the immersive 3D model, and 25 hours to meticulously craft the topographic plan. The Palace of Culture spans an impressive built-up area of approximately 4,184 square meters, with a maximum plan dimension of 47mx42m. 📏💪

Results we`re proud of include a vivid color point cloud in the coordinate system, a meticulously crafted 2D plan, an immersive 3D model, and a comprehensive topographic plan. It is our privilege to contribute to the preservation of this architectural gem, ensuring its legacy for generations to come. 🌟🏰
